Installation, Series of Modular Sculptures
Armature, concrete, fabric
Group exhibition: Displacements and Torrents—Where the Dnipro and the Elbe Meet, La Cite internationale des arts
curated by Sasha Baydal and Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, Paris, FR
This series of sculptures evokes modular furniture and prefabricated architecture with modules designed to be moved, assembled, and reassembled as circumstances dictate. The installation, whose presentation at the Cité imbues with a symbolic function, will be moved to the Maison de la Culture d'Amiens, where it will be reconfigured to accommodate the public. The collapse of the USSR and Latvia's transition to independence had a significant impact on the artist. Growing up, she saw many large unfinished building sites across the country. These reinforced concrete structures, which became her play-grounds, stand like immersive ghosts, reminding us of a collapsed power. This feeling of abandon is often present in her work.
This project is supported by Culture Moves Europe, funded by the European Union, and co-produced by Maison de la Culture d'Amiens and Beyond the Post-Soviet (Btps).
